KemperSports will manage Prairie Trails Golf, which the city of El Dorado, Kan. acquired in 2009 for $2.2 million.
The former private club was built in 1952 and includes an 18-hole golf course, full-service restaurant, meeting space and swimming pool. The family-oriented private club will now be run as a public course.
“KemperSports is the right partner to manage Prairie Trails Golf and Dining because of its experience and successful track record of operating municipal golf courses in the local market,” said El Dorado City Manager Herb Llewellyn.
KemperSports operates Arial”> in located 30 miles west of El Dorado.
“We look forward to introducing Prairie Trails to the residents of El Dorado and to golfers across the area,” said KemperSports CEO Steve Skinner. “Working with the city of El Dorado, we will bring a best in class golf and dining experience to the market.”
The acquisition of the golf course has been criticized by some local residents who feel the city overspent on an aging course.
