Gulf Harbour Country Club

Hibiscus Coast, New Zealand
Buyer: Club Membership
Seller: Grant Thornton on behalf of Capital+Merchant
Price: $5 million

This 18-hole Robert Trent Jones Jr. design was purchased by the club's 600 members for $5 million after auditor Grant Thornton had seized the club on behalf of failed finance company Capital+Merchant. The club's original owner, Mark Bryers, had defaulted on what was believed to be a $20-million loan from Capital+Merchant. In addition to the 6,400 meter championship course, the club also boasts a private clubhouse with a bar and lounge as well as a pro shop, tennis and squash courts, a heated indoor swimming pool and a fitness center.
