J. Rhett Evans is the new chief executive officer of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA). Evans has been with the GCSAA since 2009 when he became chief operating officer. He has been serving as interim CEO since June, when Mark Woodward stepped down.
Prior to his career with the GCSAA he was the director o parks, recreation and commercial facilities for Mesa, Ariz. In this position he oversaw a $32.5 million budget. Evans’ new position also makes him chief executive officer for The Environmental Institute for Golf.
Robert Trent Jones, Jr. was the sole representative for the U.S. Golf industry at a luncheon for Chinese President Hu Jintao in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 20. Jones has a long history with China, having designed courses in the country for more than 20 years. Golf Digest has ranked Jones’ courses as top ten in China. He was first invited to create courses in China in 1982.
Javier Gallegos is the new Food & beverage Director for Raveneaux Country Club. Javier has over 20 years experience in the golf industry, most recently working at the Kokopelli Club in Alto, New Mexico. In addition, he has been an active member of the Club Manager’s Association of America since 1996. The Raveneaux Club was established over 30 years ago and is regarded as one of the premiere private country clubs in Texas.
Bill Campbell has been named as Membership Director of Liberty National. Campbell will be responsible for membership sales and well as marketing. He is a former executive board member of the Rhode Island Golf Association. Campbell comes to Liberty National after serving as director of public relations for the O’Neill Properties Group.
Greg Brockelman is the new Director of Golf at Angel Park Golf Club. OB Sports Golf Management announced that Brockelman is now responsible for all aspects of the golf operation including daily play, merchandising, group play and instruction. Brockelman previously worked as head golf professional at Las Vegas Paiute Resort.
Scott Newhouse is now director of golf at The TwinEagles Club, owned by Ronto Group. Newhouse has a long career in the golf industry, most recently serving at director of golf at Naples National Golf Club. In addition, he has hosted two U.S. Open qualifying events and the annual Terra Cotta Invitational, helping it grow to one of the nation’s top-ranked amateur events.
Damian Brink is now General Manager at Fernandina Beach Golf Club. Brink has been with Billy Casper Golf since 2009 and will now manage daily operations, special events and golf instruction. The course is located in the second oldest city in the U.S. and features 27 holes, a pro shop, restaurant and large banquet hall.
