Tom Doak, principal designer of the Michigan-based firm Renaissance Golf Design, Inc., has been tabbed to design a new daily fee course at the Black Mesa Golf Club, located 30 miles north of Santa Fe in La Mesilla, N.M.
The new course will join the desert links-style layout designed by Baxter Spann in 2003, and represents the first step in a comprehensive plan to turn Black Mesa Golf Club into one of the nation’s premier golf resorts, according to Eddie Peck of Black Mesa Golf Club.
Doak has designed 31 golf courses in both national and international settings, including Pacific Dunes Golf Course in Bandon, Ore.; Barnbougle Dunes Golf Links in Bridport, Tasmania; Cape Kidnappers Resort in Napier, New Zealand; and Ballyneal in Holyoke, Colo.
