Sicilian resort opens with 54 holes

Verdura Golf & Spa Resort on the coast of Sicily and its three Kyle Phillips-designed golf courses has opened.
The resort is the 13th and latest in a collection of resort developments by Sir Rocco Forte that include The Balmoral in Edinburgh, Scotland, the Amigo in Brussels and the Astoria in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The 230-hectare resort features 203 guest rooms, 1.8 km of private coastline and a 4,000 square meter spa in addition to the two 18-hole courses and one 9-hole course designed by Phillips. The course operations are set up for guests to enjoy the golf-only layouts, offering tee times at 12-minute intervals for more relaxed play.
Future plans for the resort property include construction of more than 60 villas around the course.
