South Dakota municipal golf courses consider partnership

Municipal golf courses in Sioux Falls and Brandon are considering a partnership that would allow members more options. The courses are trying to better compete with GreatLIFE, a golf and fitness club in the area that offers access to 20 golf courses, among a host of other golf-related amenities like clinics, simulators and leagues.

According to an article in the Sioux Falls Argus Leader Sioux Falls city officials want to work with Brandon so that season pass holders of any of the three city-owned courses, The Elmwood, Prairie Green and Kuehn Park, can also have access to the Brandon Municipal Golf Course in Brandon.

Before a potential partnership can move forward the company that manages Sioux Falls public courses, Kearney and Landscapes Unlimited needs to adjust the no-compete clause in the contract city council approved in 2017.

The proposal would require Kearny and Landscapes Unlimited to hire different staff for the management of the Brandon golf course. The Brandon golf course is currently operated by the city and has brought in a consultant to find ways to improve operations. The city’s administrator said the city is considering opening up an RFP later in the year for management of the course.
