Hesperia Investment Group acquires La Manga Club

Hesperia Investment Group has made a deal with Arum Group to acquire a majority stake of La Manga Club tourism and residential resort. La Manga Club is one of the top sports resorts in southern Europe. Encompassing 560 hectares, or more than 1,385 acres, the property includes a five-star hotel, 200 apartments and more than 15 bars and restaurants.

The Club also offers fully stocked sports activities including a 28-court tennis center, eight FIFA-size football pitches, the European Cricket Performance Center and three 18-hole championship golf courses.

La Manga Club’s hand in the golf industry is rooted into the 1970s. It hosted five Spanish Opens from 1973 to 1977. The golf courses were designed by Robert Dean Putman, Arnold Palmer and Dave Thomas. There is also a golf academy and a pitch and putt designed by Spanish golf legend Severiano Ballesteros. In 2017, the golf club received royal status from the Spanish royal household, being renamed “Real Golf La Manga Club”.

Arum Group will continue to run the real estate business in La Manga Club through its subsidiary Inmogolf.

“Hesperia is the optimal partner to continue with this expansion project as this deal strengthens not only the resort’s further extension but also the development of the whole area, with a huge potential for residential tourism growth," said Jesús Abellán, CEO of Arum Group.

La Manga Club adds to Hesperia’s property and asset management portfolio comprising of more than 5,000 rooms owned, operated and managed by Hesperia. The company also manages 29 hotels with six leisure resorts located in the Balearic Islands, Peninsula and Canary Islands, as well as 23 urban hotels situated in Spain’s main cities.

La Manga Club boosts its business activity in the premium resort business arena and brings its expansion plan a step further with the help of GIHSA’s investments.

“This operation perfectly matches our growth strategy in the hotel market with quality assets that allow us to keep consolidating as a reference in the Spanish hotel industry,” said Jordi Ferrer, CERO of GIHSA. “This acquisition will allow us to create the best resort in South Europe.”
