Golf course breaks ground in Bulgaria

Construction is underway in Bulgaria at the newest golf and residential development. Phase 1 of the project at OKOL Lake Park just started this month with a ground-breaking ceremony at Gorni Okol village in Samokov, near one of Bulgaria’s largest ski resorts.

It’s going to take a few years to complete, but once the development is done OKOL will be capable of hosting major international tournaments.

OKOL will feature a championship golf course that is being designed by European Golf Design and managed by IMG. The development will also feature several other high-end amenities at the clubhouse such as a luxury spa and resort plus an array of residential opportunities.

OKOL Lake Park will set new standards for both golf in Bulgaria and the Balkan region, in its delivery of healthy, active, golf-integrated living.

“We are very satisfied with the project development so far and confident in its future success,” Valentin Kanazirev, capital investor and visionary of the project said. “Our collaboration with the local authorities and international partners such as IMG, Accor and EGD, started years ago and has already proven to be very fruitful. We are excited to start this journey together with our team, partners and clients.”

The golf course will serve as the centerpiece of the resort and has been carefully placed upon rolling hilltops and natural features and offers stunning panoramic views of the Iskar Reservoir and surrounding countryside.

The construction and development work will take about two years to complete.  The opening of the golf course is planned for 2022.
