The year 2020 has taken another thing from us: Billy Casper’s name from Billy Casper Golf. Billy Casper Golf recently announced it had changed its name to Indigo Golf Partners

The firm is one of the largest golf course management companies in the nation.  Headquartered in Reston, Va,. and with regional offices and teams across the nation, the company owns and operates more than 160 golf courses, country clubs and resorts in 29 states.

“We believe golf is for everyone and our goal is to lead the industry with innovations for current and future generations,” said Peter Hill, chairman and CEO.  “With a rapid pace of cultural, health and economic change all around us, now is the time for our entrepreneurial company to further evolve.”

The management company says the name change represents, “a new, modern brand aligned with golf’s evolving landscape and the company’s leadership in golf course ownership and operations.”

That may be true, or it could be that the management company grew tired of fighting Casper’s widow, Shirley Casper, in court.

According to Golf Dispute Resolution, there were two pending federal court actions over what appears to be a dispute about the amount to be paid by Billy Casper Management to continue to use Billy Casper’s name. Casper was a professional golfer who won more than 50 PGA tournaments, good for seventh all time. He won three majors.

Indigo Golf Partners had a strong year. It added 21 properties to its portfolio and renewed 15 partnerships. The company has also acquired and leased several courses.“In today’s world of dynamic shifts in our personal and professional lives, golf is becoming increasingly regionalized and localized,” said Alex Elmore, president of Indigo Golf Partners said.  “Filling tee sheets at optimum rates doesn’t happen by accident, and course owners who professionalize their operations and marketing are positioned to capture greater market share.”
