BSB Design has added architect Mike Roach to its growing group of experts in the firm’s Club Design Studio, which manages the needs of the firm’s golf industry clients from around the country. A graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago, Roach has been involved with golf club facilities in the Chicago region and beyond for much of his life.
“BSB Design is pleased to leverage Roach’s 15 years of club design experience and first-hand working knowledge of the industry to offer clients a competitive advantage in revenue-based design,” BSB Design stated in a news release.
As a guest of his grandparents at Beverly Country Club in the southwest corner of Chicago, Roach developed an early love for golf and the facilities that support it. He worked as a caddie at two different courses, and when he decided to pursue a career in architecture, he chose a focus on club design.
“His personal connection to the game fuels his passion for working on club-related projects,” the release stated.
Roach’s Chicago area club design projects include the two clubs where he was a caddy — River Forest Country Club and Butterfield Country Club, as well as Mistwood Golf Club and Butler National Golf Club.
Dan Nicholas, market leader at BSB Design’s Club Design Studio, thinks Roach’s experience will be valuable to their clients.
“At the onset of programming, clubs are being pushed to consider revenue generation, membership enhancement, and improved operational efficiencies from all of their facilities,” Nicholas said. “Mike Roach is a ‘feet-on-the- ground’ guy who provides a high level of focus and attention during the critical early design stage and carries that energy throughout the project timeline.”
