Marlton Golf Club, an 18-hole, par-71 daily-fee course in Upper Marlboro, Md., sold for an undisclosed price, according to broker Chris Charnas, president of Links Capital Advisors. The deal closed in early April, and the new owners have since taken over operations.
Previous owner Pleasants Construction, Inc. sold the course to a group of local buyers headed by Henry Turner.
“The previous owner was not in the golf business and was looking to get out,” Charnas said. “The buyers had a local interest. They want to put a local spin on it with some fresh marketing and new paint.”
The new owners plan to upgrade the restaurant and food and beverage facility substantially. Though KemperSports previously managed the course, the new owners are keeping operations internal.
“The buyers very much wanted to take over and turn it around themselves,” Charnas said.
Marlton Golf Club, designed by Ault, Clark & Associates, first opened in 1998. The course measures between 4,600 yards from the forward tees to 6,200 yards at the back tees.
There is also a driving range, a 5-hole putting green full service clubhouse, golf shop, food service, dining area, outside patio and pavilion overlooking the front nine.
