Trump buys private club in N.J. for $28 million

While Donald Trump is still waiting word on whether his controversial golf resort in Scotland will be approved, he's busy expanding his golf holdings in the U.S.

Trump in August finalized a deal to purchase the financially troubled Shadow Isle Golf Club in Colts Neck, N.Y., for a reported $28 million.

The 450-acre property includes a golf course designed by Jerry Pate, a par-3 course and a 58,000-square-foot clubhouse.

Trump said he expects to bring in either Tom Fazio or Tom Fazio II, who have both worked on Trump properties before, to make changes in the course. He also will change the name to Trump National Golf Club/Colts Neck.

The club, which opened in 2004, ran into financial difficulty because it was unable to attract enough members. A foreclosure suit reportedly was filed against the original developers in 2007.

Trump currently owns or operates six golf clubs in the U.S. and the Caribbean.
