Western Golf Properties has added three new contracts in the past 45 days, bringing its total to 14.
The Lake Forest, Calif.-based company recently added three California courses — Palm Lake Golf Course in Pomona, El Cariso Golf Course in Sylmar and Paso Robles Golf Club in Paso Robles.
“We took a look at the company and restructured,” said Bobby Heath, president of the company. “It is a different philosophy than ever before. Instead of planning developments, we are looking at helping people with problems.”
Heath expects to add four to six courses a year over the next few years, and hopes to close another deal soon.
Western Golf was founded by Joe Black in 1985 and was the golf partner of choice for many of the nation’s top real estate developers including Lennar Homes, US Homes and Lyle Anderson. Properties included Desert Mountain Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., Pelican Hill Golf Club in Newport Coast, Calif., and even Loch Lomond Golf Club in Scotland.
It oversaw construction, marketed the courses and communities and ran the courses for a few years until the membership or HOA was strong enough to run on its own.
But with development at a standstill, Heath said he had to reinvent the company.
“We realized we needed to restructure our company in order to tell our story,” he said. “We have been great revenue drivers since we have been in business. And we are very hands on. We create custom plans for each course.”
