Former GCSAA head to lead Signature Golf Group

David Downing II, the immediate past president of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA), is the new president of the Myrtle Beach-based Signature Golf Group course management company.

Downing, who had been serving as Signature’s vice president of operations and construction, will replace one of the Signature Group founders, Steve Taylor, as the company’s president. Taylor will remain as chairman of the board.

Downing, a 29-year member of the GCSAA, joined Signature in 2005 as superintendent of one of the group’s managed properties, Rivers Edge Golf Club in Shallotte, N.C. He became a partner in the firm last summer.

Signature currently manages eight golf course properties, in addition to providing marketing services and design consultation to a number of others.

Downing said that one of his priorities will be seeking new opportunities to grow the company’s business.
