• Coastal Carolina University is expected to acquire Quail Creek Golf Club from Chestnut Holding LLC of West Virginia, as soon as the South Carolina Budget and Control Board approves the sale in June.
CCU has been leasing and operating the course since 2005. Chestnut Holding offered the course to CCU for the remaining debt of approximately $3 million, according to university officials.
• Clydie and Linda Evans of Houston acquired Oakwood Golf and Recreation east of Houston. The 9-hole course was purchased from Gordon and Carolyn Ziegler of Washington, Mo., who had announced in 2007 that they planned to close the business. But local residents rallied to keep the course open, the Houston Herald reported.
• Members of the Colonia Country Club, which was founded in 1898, voted this week to sell the financially troubled New Jersey club to a New York real estate developer, Matthew Lonuzzi.
The sale is expected to draw legal action from city officials, the Star-Ledger reported.
The city’s mayor, John McCormac, has said he will fight to prevent the sale, which he fears will lead to the course being redeveloped into high-density housing and strip malls. McCormac would like the city to operate Colonia as a public course, and has said he will file an eminent domain action.
