The Crystal Springs Golf Course in Haverhill, Mass., has been sold to a local contractor.

The buyer, Michael Marony, plans to upgrade the course with new bunkers, tee boxes and landscaping as well as to build a new clubhouse. He also said he would construct 50 new homes on property adjacent to the course over the next three to four years.

Designed by architect Geoffrey Cornish and opened in 1960, the course was owned by Crystal Springs Golf Inc., which had operated it since shortly after its opening.
