The city of Providence, Ky., is attempting to purchase the Providence Golf & Country Club for $315,000.

A private 9-hole facility, the club had run into financial difficulty in recent years and was scheduled to be sold late last year because of property tax delinquencies.

City officials want to purchase the 64-acre facility in order to keep local control and to promote tourism in the city.

The purchase is expected to be financed with funds from the state. It will be maintained with revenue from a 3 percent tax on local restaurants and hotels.
