Golf Business & Real Estate — Hilda Allen has closed on four golf properties in the last 60 days. Included in these deals was the 18-hole Barrington Hall Golf Course in Macon, Ga., for less than $1 million in late June. This was sold to Chris Marcum, who managed and owns the Sherman Hills Golf Club in Brooksville, Fla., just north of the Tampa/St. Petersburg MSA. Barrington was on the verge of foreclosure and the previous owner claimed to be losing $40,000 a month. The 7,000-yard semi-private club hopes to win players back with a renovation.
Allen also arranged the deal for real estate and a golf property at the Grand Harbor in Greenwood, S.C., for slightly under $5 million. River Island Golf Course in Kodak, Tenn., also sold for $2 million in cash to Dan Freehan. River Islands is close to Knoxville, and has four signature holes on islands in the French Broad River. The golf course was initially listed at about $4.5 million in 2009.
