Acumen Golf of Chesterfield, Va., a course ownership and consulting company, purchased the private Brandermill Country Club in Midlothian, Va., in February for an undisclosed sale price.
Acumen, which additionally provides consulting services to courses in the East Coast region, also owns the semi-private Birkdale Golf Club in nearby Chesterfield.
Acumen purchased the club from Commonwealth Golf Properties, which in turn had purchased the club from National Golf Properties in 2002. The Brandermill golf course, designed by Gary Player, opened in 1976.
As a result of the sale, Brandermill members will receive reciprocal privileges at Birkdale Golf Club, and Birkdale’s members will receive some of the same privileges at Brandermill.
Mike Hatch, a principal and co-owner of Acumen Golf, told Brandermill members at the announcement of the sale’s closing that Acumen will eliminate quarterly food and beverage minimums at the club, no longer charge for practice balls on its range, and will work to increase the club’s current 285-person membership to 350 within the next 18 months.
