Edward Ong, principal of the Singapore-based Ock Group, is planning to build a luxury golf resort on the coast outside the East Timor capital of Dili.
The Indonesian country of East Timor won its independence in 2002, and Ong’s project will include the country’s first five-star hotel as well as a 27-hole golf facility.
The Ock Group previously built the Sutera Harbour resort in Malaysia, which opened in 2000 with a Graham Marsh-designed golf course, two hotels, a marina and spa.
Yet to be named, the East Timor project is tentatively scheduled for a 2012 opening.
