A renovation and modernization has been launched at the Ocean Course at Kona Country Club on the Big Island of Hawaii.
The renovation of the 1966 William Bell-designed course, spearheaded by Sanford Course Design, will incorporate strategies to reduce consumption of the island’s limited fresh water supply through use of recycled water and reduction of maintained turf areas, introduction of salt-tolerant paspalum turf and use of a gravity pressure irrigation supply system.
As part of the will lengthen the course layout from 6,500 yards to 7,000 yards.
Construction is set to begin in April 2010, with completion scheduled for October, and an official reopening in December 2010 or January 2011.
