Ground will be broken later this year on a second 18-hole course at its Desert Springs planned community just outside Cuevas del Almanzora in southeastern Spain.

British architect Peter McEvoy, who designed the first Desert Springs course which opened in 2001, will also design the second 18 for the developer, Almanzora Bay Group.

The company is an affiliate of the Robert Hitchens Group which is based in Cheltenham, England.

The Desert Springs community currently includes 300 homes as well as sports and fitness facilities. The community’s master plan calls for more than 2,000 homes, as well as two hotels, restaurants and shops, an international school.

Approximately 70 percent of the buyers at Desert Springs have been British, with another 15 percent from Ireland.
