Troon adds U Iowa course

Midwest expansion continues

Troon's move into the Midwest has brought in another course. The University of Iowa hired the world's largest management company to manage Finkbine Golf Course, a daily-fee facility that serves as the home course for the university’s women's and men's golf teams.

Troon acquired Green Golf Partners in 2019 and opened an office in Chicago to further support its growing collection of clubs in the region.

“We are truly excited to partner with Troon to help manage the day-to-day operations at Finkbine Golf Course,” said Matt Henderson, senior associate athletic director, University of Iowa athletics department.  “Troon has a track record of managing some of the top course around the country. Troon’s focus on providing a premier golfing experience is exactly what we were looking for as we open the new Nagle Family Clubhouse and continue to enhance one of the top golf courses in the Midwest”.

Named after the donor who gave the land to the university, the course is located on the western edge of university campus in Iowa City. The golf course opened in 1953 and was designed by Robert Harris and Dick Nugent. It has hosted numerous NCAA tournaments, a 1991 Hogan Tour event and the 1992 and 1993 “Hawkeye Classic” Nike Tour tournaments.

This spring, Finkbine Golf Course will unveil the Nagle Family Clubhouse a 19,000 square-foot, two-level facility features a larger pro shop, a restaurant and bar, a banquet facility, an outdoor patio, locker rooms, underground cart storage, and the Nagle Room – a conference room and private dining space.

“Finkbine has long been considered one of the top public courses in Iowa,” said Bruce Glasco, chief operating officer, Troon. “Through operational efficiencies, proven marketing programs and a hyper-focus on guest service and satisfaction, we will look to improve an already outstanding golf property.”
