Pacific Links buys DragonRidge for $11M

Pacific Links International announced Feb. 19 that it would acquire its third Nevada course — DragonRidge Country Club. DragonRidge will be the 11th owned property added to the company’s growing portfolio of courses. The Chinese-Canadian company had been negotiating with the seller, developer Rich MacDonald, since early November.

The sale price was slightly more than $11 million, according to Keith Cubba, listing broker for the seller, developer Rich MacDonald.

“Vegas is one of the premier golf destinations in the world, and Pacific Links is pleased to add DragonRidge to its Nevada roster,” said Bruce Simmonds, Chief Executive Officer of Pacific Links International in a statement. “We … expect to continue to grow our presence throughout Nevada and other signature golf destinations.”

Pacific Links International, a group owned by Du Sha, purchased SouthShore Golf Club and Southern Highlands Golf Club in 2011. It aims to collect at least five properties in the Las Vegas area, so it can offer a weeklong package of golf play to the people in its fast-growing membership club.

“The big story here is Pacific Links, with the ownership of SouthShore and Southern Highlands, has a pretty good lock on the private golf club market in Las Vegas, given the access its members will have to three of the better clubs in town,” Cubba told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Pacific Links hopes to buy clusters of courses in strategic markets. It also owns five courses in Hawaii and one each in California and West Virginia. It continues to look for high-end private clubs in California, Las Vegas and New York City.

It also plans to introduce an additional 50 affiliate golf clubs in 2014 and 150 clubs over the next three years with a presence in every major metropolitan and destination golf market in North America. It will specifically target clubs in New York, Florida, Arizona, California and Pennsylvania as well as several international markets such as Toronto and New Zealand.

Pacific Links bought Dove Canyon Golf Club in Orange County, Calif., in April 2013.

Jay Morrish and David Druzisky designed DragonRidge, which is located at the base of the Black Mountain Range in Henderson, Nev. Opened in 2000, the club was ranked among 2001’s “Best New Courses” by Golf Digest.

“It was important to ensure that the buyers of DragonRidge would sustain the club’s integrity and commitment to providing first-class services,” said Rich McDonald, former owner of DragonRidge Country Club. “With its reputation and expertise in the industry, I am confident that Pacific Links International will not only maintain, but enhance the member experience at DragonRidge.”
