KemperSports and Daniel & Roberts topped Golf Inc.’s inaugural Marketing and Advertising Contest.
The contest drew more than 120 entries in eight categories, with 11 being honored for excellence. Golf Inc. created the award to recognize the creative and bold work being done to promote golf courses in these challenging times.
Golf Inc. sought to keep the bar high for this contest. If an entry didn’t receive a score of eight or higher (based on a 1-10 scale) from the three judges then that work wouldn’t be eligible to be honored.
In two of the categories — television/video and best website for private clubs — no qualifying entry reached that threshold, so no winners were named. All of the other categories, except for newspaper advertising, earned 1st and 2nd place winners. The newspaper category had only a 1st place winner.
KemperSports, one of the nation’s largest golf management companies, won three awards and the Boyton Beach, Fla.-based firm of, Daniel & Roberts won two, making them the biggest winners.
The judges for Golf Inc.’s competition are among some of the best in the advertising and marketing fields. They include Greg Carson, partner and chief creative officer at the award-winning advertising firm of MeringCarson in San Diego; Holly Geoghegan, president of Golf Marketing Services in Altamonte Springs, Fla.; and Andrew Wood, founder of Legendary Marketing in Lecanto, Fla., and author of the book, “The Golf Marketing Bible.”
The eight categories included: collateral material for private clubs, direct marketing campaign for public courses, consumer magazine/publication advertisement, newspaper advertisement, radio or audio, television/video, best website for private clubs and best website for public courses.
The judges looked at a number of factors when it came to the advertisements and marketing efforts. Layout, photography and graphics were mentioned often.
Other winners included Williamsburg, Va.-based MP&A Digital & Advertising; Oki Golf of Seattle; Southworth Development in Newton, Mass; and Salt Lake City Golf.
A full listing of the winners and the categories in which they won will be in Golf Inc.’s spring issue.
