KemperSports adds two Illinois courses

KemperSports has been selected to provide its range of services at two Illinois golf courses: The Rockford Country Club and the Harborside International Golf Center in Chicago.

At Rockford, KemperSports will provide turnkey management of the private, member-owned club in Rockford. With this partnership, Rockford Country Club joins KemperCollection, KemperSports’ growing portfolio of private clubs.

“At this time in our club’s history, we must increase the value of membership and elevate the quality of service,” said Tom Valiulis, club president. “We look to the KemperSports team to deliver a first-class experience for our members and guests and expand our presence in and around Rockford.”

KemperSports will engage with local and regional organizations to strengthen relationships in the Rockford area and position the club as an integral part of the community.

“Rockford Country Club has a long and rich history in the Rockford area,” said Steve Skinner, chief executive officer of KemperSports. “Working with the membership, our team will put a plan in place to expand the club’s reputation throughout the community, grow the membership and ensure that all members find unmatched value in the club’s services and amenities.”

Rockford Country Club features an 18-hole, par-71 golf course overlooking the Rock River. The club was originally designed as a 9-hole course by Herbert James (H.J.) Tweedie in 1899. Today, Rockford Country Club includes an expansive clubhouse with a member grill, outdoor dining, banquet facilities, an Olympic-sized swimming pool and skeet house for skeet and trap shooting. The club also boasts a strong caddie program, the only one in the Rockford area.

Rockford Country Club represents the 16th member of the KemperCollection.

Additionally, KemperSports has been selected by the Illinois International Port District to provide golf course management, marketing and agronomy services for Harborside. Located only 15 minutes from downtown Chicago, Harborside features two award-winning 18-hole golf courses (Port and Starboard), and a 24,000 square-foot clubhouse that includes a Phil Stefani Signature Restaurant, Pier 37.

“KemperSports has extensive experience in managing and promoting a number of the top public and private golf courses in the Chicagoland area, and its management team shares our vision for providing exceptional service and top course conditioning for all guests,” said Michael Forde, chairman of the Illinois International Port District.

KemperSports will introduce a number of new marketing programs, tournaments and special events in 2013 to build on the facility’s success and make Harborside a frequent destination for Chicago golfers. KemperSports also plans to expand player development and teaching programs at the facility as Harborside features one of the best driving range facilities in the U.S., an expansive 57-acre practice facility with bent grass tees, target greens and multiple short game areas.

“We plan to introduce a variety of new programming at Harborside to cater to the residents of Chicago and surrounding areas, Skinner said. “We look forward to elevating the service, playing conditions and guest experience at the property to make Harborside a must-play for Chicago golfers and visitors to the city.”

Harborside International Golf Center was designed by Chicago-based golf course architect Dick Nugent. The development has been recognized for its positive environmental transformation as Nugent converted 500-acres of a former landfill into two, highly-regarded links style layouts.
