This year’s Golf Inc.’s Clubhouse of the Year contest has a bit of a foreign flavor, as two courses — one in China and another in Korea — took honors.
But U.S. courses were well-represented in the contest’s milestone year. The magazine started the contest 20 years ago.
As always, a number of the projects were stunning in scope and ambition. Remarkable transformations are represented as always.
Renovated clubhouses made-up the bulk of the 24 entries. Only five entries were for new construction, which, arguably, is not shocking given the drop in new golf course development in recent years.
“Many of the entries reflect the current reality that renovation budgets are limited and thus the challenge for the design teams is to make the most efficient use of limited funding to yield the maximum impact for capital investment,” noted John Hayhoe, president of Hayhoe Construction Corp. and one of the contest’s three judges.
“I was impressed with some of the entries where this goal was clearly achieved.”
