City asked about selling public course

Mayville Golf Course

The city of Mayville, Wis., has been approached by the private firm managing its municipal course to see if it is interested in selling.

Mayor Rob Boelk told the Beaver Dam Daily Citizen that MGT Properties has inquired about purchasing the course. Boelk said that before the city would sell, it would likely be put on a ballot as a referendum for voters to decide the issue – but next April would be the earliest a vote could be scheduled.

MGT Properties is owned by Marc G. Trott, and first broached the subject of purchasing the golf course in October 2015, according to the Daily Citizen. MGT Properties began managing the course on a three-year lease from the city in 2018.

The Mayville Golf Course was donated to the city in 1930. It sits on 153 acres, and was previously owned by the Mayville Golf Club. Mayville sits between Milwaukee and Oshkosh, and had a population of 5,154 in the 2010 census.
