Joe BeditzJoseph F. Beditz

Beditz has led the National Golf Foundation (NGF) since 1989. He joined the NGF in 1984 as Director of Research and is widely recognized as a leading expert on the game and business of golf in the United States. Dr. Beditz holds a Ph.D. in Research Methods and Statistics from Florida State University where he also earned his Masters Degree. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of North Dakota.

A former finance industry executive, Crowder formed BeechTree Golf Company in 1992, working with clients including the LPGA, NGCOA, NBC Sports and Golf Magazine, where he was a partner for 3 years in Golf Magazine TV. He is currently responsible for sourcing new business for ValleyCrest Golf Course Maintenance.

Greenwell has worked in golf marketing for over 20 years. Prior to Troon Golf, he served in the Arizona Golf Association, the USGA, and the PGA of America. As Troon’s senior marketing officer, he oversees sales, marketing, and public relations strategies.

Grundy is a PGA member wih more than 16 years in the golf industry, working primarily in the Phoenix/Scottsdale market. He is an eight year veteran with Troon Golf, including his current assignment as general manager at Troon North in Scottsdale. Prior to joining Troon Golf, Grundy worked with Marriott Golf for eight years.

After more than 40 years of professional experiences in golf course maintenance operations, “Ted” Horton is currently a consultant to the golf course industry. He is currently Senior Consulting Superintendent for ValleyCrest Golf Course Maintenance, assisting the company in overseeing maintenance of over 50 golf course properties, while also serving as executive director of the California Golf Course Owners Association and president of the California Golf Alliance.


Scott HumphreyScott Humphrey, PGA

A golf operations veteran for over 35 years, Humphrey is the General Manager of Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Oregon, a 36 hole club consisting of the members only Witch Hollow and semi-private Ghost Creek courses. A member of both the PGA of America and the Club Managers Association of America, Humphrey has served in club management since 1991, interrupted only by a five-year stint as Executive Director/CEO of the Northern California Section of the PGA of America.


Cathy Jo JohnsonCathy Jo Johnson

Incline Village Golf Courses

Johnson, or “C.J.,” as most people know her, is a multiple PGA and LPGA award-winner at both state and national levels. She is currently responsible for all golf operations at the two 18-hole Incline Village golf courses in Incline Village near Lake Tahoe, in addition to overseeing food and beverage and other operations for the year-round golf and ski recreation area. Johnson’s most recent accolade was Incline Village’s receipt of the 2008 Player Development Award from the National Golf Course Owners Association.

Jones recently retired after a 26-year career as director of golf services for the City of Coronado, Calif., and its extremely busy Coronado Golf Course. Prior to joining the Coronado course, Jones was a golf course superintendent at San Diego Country Club, Hillcrest Country Club in Los Angeles and Southport Golf Course in Queensland, Australia before serving for two years as a course maintenance equipment sales branch manager.

Kelly is responsible for management of golf operations, food & beverage, retail and agronomy for the nine golf courses and five clubhouses that comprise PGA West and La Quinta Resort and Club. A veteran industry executive, Kelly previously worked with Greg Norman Design, Meadowbrook Golf and Golden Bear International, as well as IBM.

An 11-year industry veteran, Kingsbaker oversees the sales and marketing strategies for daily fee facilities, international resorts and master-planned golf course communities for Troon Golf. His responsibilities include customer acquisition and loyalty programs, group sales programs and round delivery methods.

A highly experienced golf course general manager and operator, Lindquist has been an appraiser with the Brekan Nava Group in Phoenix for the past eight years. During that time, he has completed over 150 golf course valuations and feasibility studies. A former General Manager of the Year for KemperSports, he has also been a PGA section Golf Professional of the Year.

McNair heads all golf-related operations for JC Golf, a division of JC Resorts headquartered in San Diego. A 20-plus year industry veteran, McNair oversees golf operations for the seven Southern California properties JC manages in San Diego and Riverside Counties as well as the newly developed Ute Lake Ranch Jack Nicklaus Signature course in New Mexico.

Prebula brings a wealth of management expertise to the industry, having held senior posts with American Golf Corp. and Hilton, Sheraton and Marriott hotels. She has experience in supply-chain and conference management and also is president of Creative Hospitality Services, an operations consulting firm serving the golf, club, hotel and restaurant industries.

Since his early career as sales and marketing director at La Quinta Hotel Golf and Tennis Resort, he has worked with Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide from 1992-2000 and Destination Hotels and Resorts until joining La Quinta Resort in 2007.

Simpson joined Sun City West in 2004 to oversee the operations of the community’s seven golf courses. He was named Golf Operations and Marketing Manager shortly thereafter, a position he holds today. He was elected to the Arizona Golf Association’s Board of Governors in 2006. He began his career in the public sector and worked 21 years for the Colorado Springs Parks and Recreation Department.

Currently directing his own consulting firm focused on delivering effective and efficient solutions to county club and resort facilities, Skogen spent over 25 years with Marriott International as Area Operations Director, Senior Resort Manager and Director of Golf. He is a former PGA National and Section Merchandiser of the Year and former member of the California Tourism Marketing Committee and a past recipient, Golf Inc. Most Admired Operator Award.

Stegall is the senior operations executive for 76 KemperSports third-party management properties. The 15-year industry veteran has held various senior operations, sales and marketing positions at American Golf, Troon Golf and KemperSports. Prior to entering the golf industry, he was a senior project director for Xerox Learning Systems and Learning International.

Sugden has been with Troon Golf for 13 yrs. Sugden’s responsibilities include oversight of the Troon Card program, the Troon Golf Reservation Center and managing content administration of facility websites and search engine optimization efforts.

Prior to launching Sunrise Golf Group, Tansey’s positions with American Golf Corp. included director of sales and marketing for the Northeast and East regions, regional director for the Publics West Region and national director of business development. After leaving AGC, Tansey worked as executive vice president for Walters Golf in Las Vegas and later served as vice president of golf operations for Leisure Industries, a timeshare and land development company.

A 30-year golf industry veteran, Williams directs all aspects of course and grounds maintenance and its $4.3 million budget for the private, 36-hole property at The Los Angeles Country Club. Active on numerous industry boards and associations, Williams is a past president of the GCSAA and the Golf Course Superintendents Association of Southern California and a board member of the PGA of America.


Mark WoodwardMark Woodward

Woodward took the helm of the GCSAA in July after overseeing the highly successful 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines Golf Club for the city San Diego. He was named San Diego golf operations manager in 2005. He previously had worked for 31 years for the city of Mesa, Ariz., in its golf operations. His achievements at Torrey Pines included supervision of a $6 million renovation of the course as well as restructuring of its management and operations. Woodward served as GCSAA president in 2004.
